At Thomastown West Primary School, student leadership is genuinely valued and embedded in everyday practice, not treated as a token gesture. Students are provided with authentic opportunities to lead, contribute, and influence school life through leadership roles featured below (with photos). Our leaders are supported and extended through explicit teaching of leadership skills, ensuring students understand responsibility, communication, and service. Importantly, leadership is not limited to a select few; all students are encouraged to take ownership of their actions and contribute positively to their learning environment. This approach reflects a clear belief that leadership capacity can be developed in every child when expectations are high and support is consistent.
Student voice and agency are actively cultivated through structured and intentional practices across the school. Students are regularly involved in co-constructing classroom agreements, contributing to the School Wide Positive Behaviour framework, and providing feedback that informs teaching and learning. Through forums such as SRC meetings and student voice initiatives, students are empowered to express their perspectives and see those perspectives translated into action. This is not superficial consultation; it is a deliberate strategy to build engagement, belonging, and accountability. When students feel heard and have a genuine influence on decisions, they are more motivated, more connected, and more invested in their learning, outcomes that align directly with improved wellbeing and academic growth.
Remember, you don’t need a badge to be a leader!

Office Monitors
Our office monitors continue to play an important role in supporting daily routines and assisting with front office tasks. These Grade 6 students demonstrate responsibility and pride, and their contribution benefits both staff and peers. As many of our monitors are new to the role, they are learning valuable skills in communication, organisation and leadership. We ask for your patience and encouragement as they grow in confidence and capability. We greatly appreciate their efforts and the positive way they represent our school community.
