Welcome back to Term 4!
It's been lovely to welcome everyone back to school for our final term of the year. I hope our families enjoyed the school holidays and are feeling ready for another busy term of learning, activities and opportunities for our students to shine.
Swimming Program
Our swimming program commenced on Monday, and our first session was mostly successful. Swimming is an important opportunity for students to develop their water safety knowledge, confidence and skills. Unfortunately, a number of students arrived at school without their swimming gear, and staff made every effort to contact families to arrange for these items to be brought to school. Please check that your child has everything they need on swimming days (Mondays) so they can make the most of these valuable lessons.
A big thank you to the parents and carers who have volunteered their time to help us with the swimming program. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps these activities run smoothly for our students.
SunSmart Reminders
Please ensure your child brings their school sun hat each day. During Term 4, students must wear an appropriate school hat when outdoors. Children without a suitable hat will need to remain in designated shaded areas. You can purchase school hats from the office ($14); please ensure all hats are clearly labelled with your child's name.
Students will also be given the opportunity to nominate five friends they would like to be placed with next year. We guarantee that each child will be placed with at least one student from their list, unless extenuating circumstances apply. In these situations, we will discuss the matter with the child's parents or carers. We will consider only friendship requests. We cannot accommodate requests for particular teachers. Accurate enrollment information is essential as we plan our classes for 2027. Knowing how many students will be attending TWPS next year helps us develop the most appropriate class structures and class sizes. If your child will not be returning to TWPS in 2027, please notify the school office as soon as possible. We understand that some families may be moving house and that another school may be more convenient for their new location. We will always do our best to support children and families through transitions to new schools. Thank you to the families who have already advised us of their plans for next year. As always, our students, their learning and their development remain our highest priority. |
Parent Opinion Survey Results
We are celebrating the strengths of our school community and using the feedback to guide continuous school improvement!
The 2026 Parent Opinion Survey highlights several strengths at Thomastown West Primary School. Thank you to the 31 families who completed the survey! Their feedback helps us recognise our successes and identify opportunities for continued improvement.

Looking After Our Health
Spring brings warmer weather, but it is also the season for increased grass pollen and hay fever symptoms. Thunderstorm asthma can be a serious risk for people with asthma or hay fever, particularly those who experience coughing or wheezing. Families are encouraged to review their child's asthma management plan and seek advice from their doctor if needed. At school, we will continue to monitor relevant weather warnings and take appropriate precautions to support student safety.
Arriving at School on Time
Thank you to the families who make getting to school on time a priority. Being at school and ready to learn by 8:45 am helps children settle into their classrooms, connect with their friends and participate in important learning from the beginning of the day.
We understand that mornings (especially after Daylight Saving Time has commenced) can sometimes be challenging. However, even a few minutes of missed learning can add up over time. Arriving late can also interrupt classroom routines and make it harder for children to feel settled and ready to learn. If your child arrives after the morning bell, please enter through the school office so we can record their attendance.
If your child is absent, please notify the school through Compass or by calling the office on 9465 4317. If your family needs support with attendance or punctuality, please reach out to me, our Assistant Principal or a member of our wellbeing team.
Introducing new staff
You may have noticed a couple of new faces in the school grounds. Welcome to our new Education Support Staff who will be joining TWPS for the remainder of the school year.

A Few Important Reminders
Chewing gum and bubble gum are not permitted on school grounds, including before and after school. This helps us maintain a clean environment and reduces the risk of accidents while children are playing.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe, positive and engaging learning environment. The partnership between home and school is important, and we value the many ways our families contribute to school life.

Welcome back, everyone!
We hope you all had a fantastic, relaxing break and are feeling refreshed and ready to jump into an exciting Term 4.
As we kick off the final term of the year, it is also the perfect time to highlight that October is Mental Health and Wellbeing Month. At our school, we are celebrating the power of community under this year’s theme, "Together We Thrive." Taking care of our mental health is just as important as looking after our physical health, and even the smallest actions can make a massive difference. Over the coming weeks, we encourage all our students and families to focus on "A Little Connection"—whether that means checking in on a friend, sharing a meaningful conversation over dinner, or taking a few quiet moments to unwind.
Let’s work together to keep our minds healthy, support one another, and build a kind, connected school community where everyone feels valued.

At TWPS we want every child to achieve their full potential and we know that parents share this goal. There is a clear link between good attendance and educational achievement. If your child is not in school, on time, as often as possible they will be missing out on many important parts of their
education.
Why is regular attendance at school important?
Regular school attendance will mean that your child has a better chance in life. Your child will achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day...
*they learn better
*they make friends
*they are happier
*they have a brighter future
If your child is sick, of course it is appropriate to keep your child at home but
other ‘days off’ school add up to lost learning. See below:

Get ready for a day of fun, fabulous and WACKY HAIR!
We encourage all students to come to school on Wednesday 28 October sporting their craziest, silliest and most creative hairstyles. The wackier, the better!
To make the day even more exciting, students can order a delicious hot lunch to enjoy. This year, we are proud to support our wonderful local business, Edgars Road Bakery, who will be supplying our pies, pasties, hot dogs and sausage rolls.
We would also love some helping hands! If you are available to assist with packing lunches on the day, please see Mrs El Zoobi at the office.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support. We look forward to seeing some wonderfully wacky hairstyles on Wednesday 28 October!
