Parent Opinion Survey
Please Help Us Reach 50 Family Responses!

Last year, 30 families completed the Department of Education’s Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey. This year, we are aiming for at least 50 families, and we would greatly appreciate your support!

The survey gives families an opportunity to share their views about our school, including school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Your feedback helps us identify areas for improvement, plan future priorities and determine professional learning needs for staff.

While participation is optional, every response matters. All TWPS families are invited to participate.

• Closing date: Friday 18 September 2026
• Completion time: Approximately 20 minutes
• Access: Any internet-connected device, including a mobile phone
• Languages: English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi
• Confidentiality: All responses are anonymous and confidential

Please use the link provided to your family via email or the hardcopy (given to your child) to complete the survey. Only one parent, caregiver or guardian from each family should participate. The individual survey link can only be used once and must not be shared.

Your honest feedback is important to us and will help shape the future direction, management and improvement of Thomastown West Primary School. Please help us reach our goal of 50 family responses!

Parent / Student / Teacher Conferences: Wednesday 16 September
A reminder that our Parent, Student and Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday 16 September 2026. These conferences provide an important opportunity to celebrate each child’s progress, discuss their learning and wellbeing, and identify their next learning goals.

Each conference is strictly 15 minutes, although additional time may be allocated for students who have a scheduled Student Support Group meeting. Interpreters can also be arranged if required.

Students will not attend school for the full day on Wednesday 16 September. They should attend only with their parent or carer at their scheduled conference time.

Only 89 families have booked their conference meetings. Please phone the Office on 94654317 for support or book your conference using Compass. Further information in this newsletter explains how to book your conference time through Compass.

                  
 

Please note: Room 9 and Room 15 conferences will be held on Tuesday 13 October 2026. Room 9 and Room 15 students will not attend school on 16 September but will attend school as usual on 13 October, leaving their classroom only for their conference.

Student Support Group meetings: SUCCESS!
Thank You for Attending Our Student Support Group Meetings
We were extremely pleased that every family attended their scheduled Student Support Group meeting. This strong attendance reflects the commitment of our families to working in partnership with the school to support their child’s learning, wellbeing and development.

These meetings provide valuable opportunities for families, teachers and support staff to share information, celebrate progress, discuss any concerns and agree on clear goals and strategies. When we work together, we can provide more consistent and effective support for each student.

The school also employs a Casual Relief Teacher to release classroom teachers so they can participate fully in these meetings. Attending your scheduled appointment ensures this important investment is used effectively. When meetings are cancelled at short notice or families do not attend, the school still incurs this cost.

Sun Safe Policy
Hats On Heads – No Hat, No Play! 

A reminder to all families that our SunSmart policy is now in place. Students must have their school hat on their head whenever they are playing or learning outside.

At Thomastown West Primary School, we follow a simple rule: No hat, no play. Students who do not have their hat with them will need to remain in designated shaded areas during outdoor play.

Please make sure your child brings their clearly labelled school hat to school every day. Wearing a hat is an important part of protecting our students from the sun and developing healthy sun-safety habits for life.

Thank You for a Wonderful School Concert! 

What an incredible night we had at our Whole School Concert last Wednesday! We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such an amazing success.

A special thank you to our parents and families for supporting our students, helping with costumes and preparations, and coming along to celebrate their performances.

We would also like to thank our teachers and Education Support staff for the many hours of rehearsals, organisation, costume preparation and encouragement that went into making the concert such a memorable experience for our students.

A big thank you to our office team for all their behind-the-scenes organisation and hard work, and to our wonderful Mrs Young for her ongoing support and leadership.

Most importantly, congratulations to all of our students! Their enthusiasm, confidence and incredible performances made us extremely proud. It was wonderful to see our whole school community come together to celebrate their achievements.

We would like to congratulate some of our fantastic chess club members who have been recognised for their outstanding contributions and participation.

Congratulations to John for his enthusiasm, positive attitude and willingness to help others. It is wonderful to see students supporting one another and contributing to the success of our club.

Well done to all three students! We are proud of the way they are demonstrating our school values through their participation and support of others.

Father's Day Celebrations 
A big thank you to everyone who helped make our Father's Day celebrations so special!

We would like to thank our wonderful volunteers and office team for organising and running the Father's Day Stall. It was fantastic to see our students excited to choose something special for their dads, grandfathers and other important people in their lives.

A special thank you also goes to our Prep–2 teachers for organising and hosting the Father's Day Breakfast on Friday. It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying breakfast together and spending some special time with their children at school.

We are grateful to all of the staff and volunteers who gave their time to make these events possible. Thank you for helping us create opportunities for our school community to come together and celebrate the important people in our students' lives!

Walking Thomastown – What a Night! 
A huge thank you to the wonderful Thomastown West students who danced on stage and represented our school at Walking Thomastown!

It was fantastic to see such a great turnout from our school community, alongside students and families from other local schools. The event was a wonderful celebration of our local community, with the lights and walk, food trucks, live bands, fire dancer and spectacular projections creating an amazing atmosphere.

Our students did an incredible job representing Thomastown West and sharing their enthusiasm and talent with the wider community. Mrs Young and Mr Crotti were very impressed and incredibly proud of our students!

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our students. It was wonderful to see our school community out and about, enjoying such a fantastic local event together. We can't wait for the next one!

A Heartfelt Thank You as Term 3 Comes to an End

As Term 3 comes to an end, we would like to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful school community.

To our teachers, thank you for your dedication, patience, care and commitment to our students. Your passion for teaching and the time and energy you give each and every day makes such a difference. Thank you for creating engaging learning experiences, supporting our students and always going the extra mile.

To our ES staff, thank you for the incredible support, care and encouragement you provide to our students and teachers. Your work is invaluable, and the positive impact you have on our students' learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging is truly appreciated.

To our administration staff, thank you for keeping everything running behind the scenes. From welcoming families and supporting staff to managing the many day-to-day tasks that keep our school moving, your hard work, organisation and willingness to help never go unnoticed.

And finally, to our students, thank you for being the heart of our school. We are so proud of the effort, resilience, growth and kindness you have shown throughout Term 3. You have challenged yourselves, supported one another, learned new things and continued to grow in so many ways. Remember to celebrate how far you have come and be proud of your achievements.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making Term 3 a successful, positive and memorable term. It truly takes a whole community, and we are incredibly fortunate to have such a caring and committed one.

Parent Student Teacher Conferences at TWPS will be held Wednesday 16th September 2026

From this afternoon, YOU can book your child(ren) conference ONLINE using COMPASS!

GREAT NEWS! When you use COMPASS to book a conference meeting with your teacher, it will be a time that you choose, which suits YOUR FAMILY! It is really easy to let us know (on Compass) if you require an interpreter!

For parents and carers that do not have access to the internet at home, at work, Thomastown Library, or at a friend’s house, support will be available at the office from 3:15pm Monday 31st August 2026 onwards, so that parents and carers can still make  bookings online.

Each Parent Student Teacher Conference is strictly 15 minutes and spaces are  limited. However, more time may be allocated to your conference if your child has their Student Support Group (SSG) meeting scheduled.

Parents can change their bookings, any time prior to the closing date, by revisiting COMPASS, and following the instructions. Remember to use the same COMPASS login you used when you made your original booking. Parents   wishing to change their meeting times after the closing date, should contact the school directly on: 9465 4317.

Students only attend school on 16/9/26 with their parents or carers at the time of their conference.

*Please note, Room 15 and Room 09 will have their Parent Student Teacher conferences on Tuesday 13th October 2026. Room 15 students will not attend school on 16/9/26, but they will attend the full day of school on Tuesday 13th October 2026. That is, on the day of Room 15's conferences, students will only leave their classroom at the time of their conference with their Parents or Carers.

Term 3 Week 8 & 9 Student Attendance Report

As part of the Department of Education Every Day Counts initiative, schools report attendance in percentages. The Government regard 95% as the minimum satisfactory attendance for a school student.

The percentages in the table below indicates the average attendance for each class for this week.

The shaded boxes  below indicate which classroom has the highest level of attendance for their year level.

Every day of learning really does count!

At TWPS we want every child to achieve their full potential and we know that parents share this goal. There is a clear link between good attendance and educational achievement. If your child is not in school, on time, as often as possible they will be missing out on many important parts of their
education.                      

Why is regular attendance at school important?

Regular school attendance will mean that your child has a better chance in life. Your child will achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day...

*they learn better   
*they make friends      
*they are happier   
*they have a brighter future

If your child is sick, of course it is appropriate to keep your child at home but

other ‘days off’ school add up to lost learning.  See below:
