FANTASTIC NEWS!
Each year, students in Years 4 to 6 complete the Attitudes to School Survey, providing valuable feedback about their learning, wellbeing, relationships and experiences at school. Student voice plays an important role in helping us celebrate what is working well while also identifying areas for continued improvement. Our preliminary results are extremely positive and reflect the strong learning culture and supportive relationships that exist across our school.
The strengths identified by each year level were particularly pleasing:
While the results were overwhelmingly positive, the survey highlighted an opportunity to further strengthen positive peer relationships and respectful behaviour between students. When completing the survey, students often reflect on their experiences in the playground, where friendships, games and social interactions naturally bring both enjoyable moments and occasional challenges. Competitive games, disagreements about rules, or having several students wanting to make decisions can sometimes lead to conflict. Learning to communicate respectfully, consider different perspectives, compromise and resolve disagreements positively is a natural part of growing up and helps students develop important social and emotional learning skills. This is one of the reasons our Social, Emotional Wellbeing and Inclusion programs are such a valuable part of school life. These programs support students to build resilience, empathy, self-regulation and positive relationship skills, helping to create the safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment that is a strength of our school.
One of the most pleasing aspects of this year's survey was the dramatic improvement in student perceptions of school safety and inclusion. Compared to 2025, the percentage of students reporting that they have a trusted adult or advocate at school increased from 81% to 97%, while positive responses relating to the management of bullying rose from 63% to 96%. Respect for diversity also increased substantially, rising from 70% to 89%. These gains are particularly significant because they represent some of the largest improvements recorded across the survey and demonstrate the success of our whole school commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion, restorative practices and social emotional learning. Most importantly, they suggest that students are increasingly experiencing our school as a place where they feel safe, supported, respected and connected.
Student Semester One Reports
Teachers are currently finalising Semester One reports, which will be available to families through Compass from Wednesday 24 June 2026. Due to the recent industrial action across Victorian government schools, reports this semester will be limited to student progression points against the Victorian Curriculum. Written comments and some other reporting elements that families have received in previous years will not be included. We anticipate that the written comments will return for the Semester Two Student Reports in December this year.
Preparing student reports remains an important process that requires teachers to carefully review assessment data, student work samples, classroom observations and learning growth across the semester. Throughout Semester One, teachers have gathered a wide range of evidence to monitor each student's progress and achievement against the Victorian Curriculum. Using this evidence, teachers make professional judgements about where students are working along the learning continuum and record progression points that reflect each student's current level of achievement.
While the format of reports has changed this semester, families can be assured that teachers continue to closely monitor student learning and progress. When reports become available, I encourage families to take the time to review them alongside their child, celebrate achievements and discuss learning goals for the remainder of the year.
Reports will be available online through Compass. If you do not have access to the internet or a suitable device to view your child's report, please contact the school office. We will be happy to arrange a printed copy for you.
Arrive on time, at quarter to nine!
Congratulations to all the fabulous students who arrive on time, READY TO LEARN, at quarter to nine EVERY DAY! Friendly reminder: Next term, to avoid unnecessary distractions during crucial learning time at the start of the school day, students will say goodbye to their parents/carers in the foyer and staff will aid the children to get to class safely. There will be no need for parents to escort their child to class after 8:50am.
Over the coming weeks, families will receive a letter providing an update on their child's punctuality and the impact that repeated late arrivals can have on learning. Arriving on time every day is an important life skill and helps students begin the day calmly, establish positive routines and maximise every learning opportunity from the moment the school day begins.
Sports Gear SRC Fundraiser
Congratulations to our SRC leaders Molly and Belal, who were supported by the Year 6 leadership Captains who made the SRC fundraiser ‘Wear Sport’s Gear’ day a huge success! We hope you enjoy the photos in the newsletter.
LEAVE
There is just one more fortnightly newsletter to go out before the term holidays and it occurred to us that this is Mrs Young’s last newsletter for the term. Why may you ask? Mrs Young is taking some well deserve long service leave during the last week of this term. We hope you enjoy the warmer weather in Queensland Mrs Young!!
For the first 5 weeks of next term, Mr Crotti will be absent from TWPS. He will be enthusiastically completing his Unlocking Potential (UP) Internship at Ivanhoe East Primary School. The UP program is designed as a Principal Preparation program that many assistant principals complete to further develop the leadership capabilities required to lead successful school communities. As part of the program, participants engage in mentoring, professional learning and a school based internship, providing valuable opportunities to observe, reflect and learn alongside experienced principals. This experience allows aspiring leaders to deepen their understanding of strategic leadership, school improvement, teaching and learning, and the complex responsibilities of principalship. We are excited for Mr Crotti as he undertakes this next stage of his leadership journey and look forward to welcoming him back with new insights, experiences and ideas that will further benefit our students, staff and school community.
IMPORTANT!!
It is very important the school has your most current emergency contact telephone details, email and home address. If you change telephone details, email or home address at any point, we ask that you update the school with your accurate contact details as soon as possible.
This is a reminder that schools do not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students.Parents and carers of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance and any other transport costs.
Lost Property
We continue to have a large volume of unnamed jumpers and jackets located in LOST PROPRTY area of the Office. Please visit the TWPS Office to see if you can locate any jumpers that may belong to your family. It would be greatly appreciated if you could take the time to label all jumpers belonging to your child/ren so that they can be returned.
School Council Meeting
A reminder to all councillors that the June meeting of School Council is scheduled for Tuesday 23rd June commencing at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held in the TWPS staffroom.

On Thursday Thomastown West Primary School was filled with colour, excitement and plenty of team spirit as students and staff proudly took part in our SRC Sports Gear Day. It was wonderful to see everyone dressed in their favourite sporting outfits and team colours.
Throughout recess and lunchtime, students enjoyed a range of fun activities and embraced the opportunity to celebrate the positive impact that sport has on health, wellbeing, friendships and belonging. The enthusiasm and participation shown by our students made the day a tremendous success.
We are incredibly proud of our Student Representative Council (SRC) team for their leadership and commitment in organising such a fantastic event. A special thank you also goes to our Principal, Sandi, and to Milly, whose support and organisation helped make the day such an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Thank you to all families for your generous gold coin donations in support of Team Sports 4 All. Your contributions will help provide more children with access to team sport and the many benefits that participation brings. We greatly appreciate the kindness and support shown by our school community.

At TWPS we want every child to achieve their full potential and we know that parents share this goal. There is a clear link between good attendance and educational achievement. If your child is not in school, on time, as often as possible they will be missing out on many important parts of their
education.
Why is regular attendance at school important?
Regular school attendance will mean that your child has a better chance in life. Your child will achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day...
*they learn better
*they make friends
*they are happier
*they have a brighter future
If your child is sick, of course it is appropriate to keep your child at home but
other ‘days off’ school add up to lost learning. See below:
