Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings - Thank you
We would like to sincerely thank all parents and carers who attended the recent Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences. Your support, partnership, and commitment to your child’s learning play a vital role in their success. It was wonderful to share achievements, discuss progress, and set goals together, and we truly value the time you take to engage with these important conversations.
Writing Masterclass with Author Lez Zig
Mrs Santiglia organised a special Writing Masterclass with author Les Zig for students in our High Ability Program, along with four visiting students from a nearby school. Held in our Community Hub for most of the day on Friday, the workshop gave students the chance to extend their writing skills, learn new techniques, and be inspired by the guidance of a published author. It was a fantastic opportunity for our young writers to develop their craft and share their creativity in a supportive and engaging environment. Students were engaged and excited by the program and everything Les had to say.
District Athletics
Seven of our students proudly represented our school at the recent District Athletics competition. They competed with determination and great sportsmanship across a range of events, showcasing their effort and commitment. We are very proud of their achievements and the way they represented our school community with pride and enthusiasm.
2025 Footy Day
Our annual Footy Day parade was a fantastic celebration of footy spirit, with students proudly wearing their team colours and joining in the fun. The day included a footy skills circuit, where students practised kicking, handballing, and other game skills in a supportive and energetic atmosphere. It was a wonderful way to build teamwork, enjoy physical activity, and celebrate the excitement of the footy season together.
R U OK Day
For R U OK? Day, our students wore a splash of yellow to help raise awareness about the importance of checking in with others and supporting wellbeing. The day was a great reminder of the power of kindness, empathy, and starting conversations that matter. A big thank you goes to Mrs Colakovski for organising this meaningful event and encouraging our school community to look out for one another.
Curiosity Showcase
Our Curiosity Showcase was a wonderful celebration of student learning, with families invited into classrooms to view the projects students have been working on throughout the term. The showcase highlighted the creativity, problem-solving, and hard work of our students, who were excited to share their ideas and learning journeys. It was fantastic to see so many families engaging with the projects and celebrating the achievements of our learners together.
Their Care Holiday Program During the school holidays, our onsite provider TheirCare once again ran a fantastic holiday program for our students. The program offered a variety of fun and engaging activities, keeping students entertained, active, and connected with friends throughout the break. We are grateful to the TheirCare team for providing such a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment for our children during the holidays. |
Futsal tournament
Our girls’ futsal team proudly represented our school in a recent tournament, showcasing great teamwork, determination and skill. They played three exciting matches, winning two and finishing an impressive second overall. We are very proud of their efforts and the way they supported one another throughout the competition.
Chess Club
Congratulations to our Chess Club champions:
1st place: Otto
2nd place: Kaiden
3rd place: Cyrus and Harraz
Planning for 2026
Work on the 2026 grade placements for your children is about to get underway. If you have any concerns or important information regarding your child’s grade placement for 2026 please put these in writing and address the envelope, marked CONFIDENTIAL, to Sandi Young before Friday 17th October 2025. (Week 2, Term 4)
Early next term, students will be given an opportunity in class to make a list of 5 students they would like to be with. We guarantee children to be placed with at least one of the students on their list, unless there are extenuating circumstances. These circumstances would then be discussed with their parents or carers. Requests can only be in relation to student friendships. Teacher requests will not be considered.
It is important for us to have accurate enrolment numbers for children attending our school in 2026. So that the best possible class structures and class sizes can be organised, please inform the Office if your child is changing schools. We understand that some families are moving houses and there may be schools that are closer to your new address. We will happily support your child and their transition to a new school. As always, our children, their learning and development, will remain our top priority.
Please contact the school to let us know if your child/children will not be attending TWPS in 2026. Thank you to those families who have already done so.

We are pleased to share that Mrs Violeta Colakovski and Mrs Effie Santiglia will be co-leading the Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (MHWL) role at Thomastown West Primary School.
The MHWL role is part of the state-wide Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative. It is not a counselling or clinical role, but rather a leadership role that focuses on building a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing. In this role, Mrs Colakovski and Mrs Santiglia will be working with teachers, staff, families, and community services to strengthen staff knowledge and skills so they can better support students’ mental health needs. They will also create clear pathways for students to access further help and support when required. In addition, they will work to embed mental health literacy across the school community so that wellbeing is part of everyday learning. Importantly, they will advocate for student voice and ensure children feel safe, valued, and supported. Together, they will help ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive, both in their learning and in their overall wellbeing.
If you have any concerns about your child’s mental health or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to work in partnership with families to provide guidance and support.
With the school holidays beginning on Monday, we encourage families to take time to rest and recharge. Simple steps such as minimising screen time, enjoying some sunshine, and making time for outdoor play can make a big difference. Research shows that exposure to natural sunlight boosts the body’s production of vitamin D and increases serotonin levels, both of which play an important role in regulating mood and supporting positive mental health. Outdoor play also helps children develop creativity, resilience, and social skills in a natural setting.
We also recognise that the holidays can sometimes bring challenges. Please remember that support is available:
We wish all our families a safe, happy, and healthy break.
Warm regards,
Violeta Colakovski & Effie Santiglia
Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) Co-Leaders

At TWPS we want every child to achieve their full potential and we know that parents share this goal. There is a clear link between good attendance and educational achievement. If your child is not in school, on time, as often as possible they will be missing out on many important parts of their
education.
Why is regular attendance at school important?
Regular school attendance will mean that your child has a better chance in life. Your child will achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day...
*they learn better
*they make friends
*they are happier
*they have a brighter future
If your child is sick, of course it is appropriate to keep your child at home but
other ‘days off’ school add up to lost learning. See below:
