TWPS Newsletter No. 6

6th June 2025

Term 2 Week 7 Information

Eid

Eid Mubarak to all the families in our community who are celebrating this weekend. We hope you enjoy a joyful and meaningful time together with your loved ones. Eid is a special time for reflection, gratitude, and connection, and we wish you peace, happiness, and many blessings. Thank you for being a valued part of our school community and for sharing your culture and traditions with us.

Curriculum day and long weekend

Friendly reminder that the students’ next school day is Wednesday June 11. June 10 is a curriculum day, where teachers will be planning for next term. TheirCare will be running a full day program for any families who need them to take care of your children that day at our school.

Excursions are valuable and rich experiences!

So many excursions this term! Thank you to our lovely teachers for organising them. There are photos from the grade 3-4 Werribee Zoo excursion later in the newsletter. Classes have also been attending Quantum Victoria for science and technology learning excursions. The grade 3-4s will be attending there next week. Don’t forget to bring back your notes if you haven’t yet. Firefighters have come to visit our Prep, grade 1s and 2s. Please see the photos of our students learning from them about how they help people in our community.

Principals are learners too

Last week, Mrs Young and Mr Crotti attended the Whittlesea Network Conference on Thursday and Friday. We learnt a lot about the updates in education, and what we can expect for our school in the next few years. This included sessions with a Paralympian, Dr Hannah McDougall on wellbeing, as well Ryan Dunn from Melbourne University on the changes in education the direction we are heading in, and Br Ben Palmer on Leading with an awareness of others. It was great to learn from these experts and to hear from other school principals about what is working well for them in their schools and what they are working on too.

Semester One Student Reports

Semester One student reports will be available from Thursday 3rd July via Compass from 12pm for all classes. Did you know that teachers often spend many additional hours beyond their 38-hour work week reviewing student learning and tracking learning growth through triangulating assessment data and work samples, as well as crafting thoughtful comments? Mr Crotti and Mrs Young wish to express our sincere appreciation to our teachers for their diligent efforts in preparing personalised and thorough reports. If you have forgotten your Compass log in details or you require assistantce, please contact the TWPS Office on 9465 4317.

Wellbeing Term 2 Week 7

What is bullying?

Someone being mean isn't always bullying.

Bullying behaviours:

  • Are aggressive, unkind or mean behaviours that are one-sided
  • Are repeated behaviours (it must happen multiple times, in an ongoing way to be defined as bullying)
  • Happen on purpose/are deliberate (i.e. aren't accidental for instance)
  • Must have a power imbalance - which means that people bullying and the people being bullied aren't seen as being 'equal', or the person being bullied would have a hard time standing up for themself or fighting back, e.g. older, bigger people picking on smaller, younger people, or 'popular' people targeting someone who they see as being 'unpopular', or a group targeting one person
  • Causes harm - this can be physical (e.g. bruises), psychological (e.g. distress) or social (e.g. losing friends)

Some other serious types of behaviours, like discrimination, harassment and abuse, can overlap with bullying and are, against the law

Bullying is not the same as:

  • Being rude - saying or doing something hurtful that wasn't planned or meant to hurt someone, e.g. someone pushing in front of you in the canteen line
  • Being mean - doing something hurtful to someone on purpose once or twice, e.g. a friend refusing to hang out with you one day
  • Conflict - there's a disagreement, both sides are aggressive/mean and there's no power imbalance (both sides can 'stand up' for themselves or fight back), e.g. two friends getting into an argument or fight and saying mean things to each other
  • Respectful feedback on behaviours you're doing that aren't ok, e.g. "It's not ok to roll your eyes every time they talk about sport."
  • A friend putting in a 'boundary' e.g. "I don't like it when you keep telling me what to do."
  • Natural consequences in socialising, e.g. a friend not trusting you because you shared their secret

Every day of learning really does count!

At TWPS we want every child to achieve their full potential and we know that parents share this goal. There is a clear link between good attendance and educational achievement. If your child is not in school, on time, as often as possible they will be missing out on many important parts of their
education.

Why is regular attendance at school important?

Regular school attendance will mean that your child has a better chance in life. Your child will achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day...

*they learn better
*they make friends
*they are happier
*they have a brighter future

If your child is sick, of course it is appropriate to keep your child at home but

other ‘days off’ school add up to lost learning.  See below:

 CUP OF LIFE

Well done to all the boys and girls who are attending school every day.

Congratulations!
